One of the most critical factors in the performance of a nebulizer, MDI, or spacer is the total dose of medication delivered to the patient. In making a comparison to the relative performance of other nebulizers, MDIs, and spacers for the purpose of determining if the aerosol delivery device is safe and effective, total dose is a principal variable. Patients who receive too much medication can begin having unneeded and dangerous side effects. Patients who don't get enough medication may quickly detiorate.
