Mass Median Aerodynamic Diameter (MMAD) is the single largest attribute that is used to predict where an aerosol particle is likely to deposit in the patient's airway. Ideal particle size is dependant on delivered medication and intended effect. Delivered drug, temperature, humidity, quantity of mixing ambient air, patient tidal volume, patient hold time and other factors can all make large differences on the ultimate size of the aerosol particle that is inhaled by the patient.
